Welcome!

Finally, after months and months of construction, I’m proud to announce that the website is up and running!  I’ve received countless wonderful emails from so many of you and my hope is that through this blog I’ll be able to keep up with all of the questions and chat with ya’ll on a regular basis.

Even back in my days at a firm, working with much larger budgets, I practiced high style at every cost. Sometimes the perfect piece really is the least expensive option and sometimes it’s not.  Good design is about finding a balance between the two and creating a beautiful aesthetic within your means.  There’s nothing satisfying about living a beautiful life if it puts you in the poor house! Where do you put down a real chunk of change and when can you do the same thing for a fraction of the price? My goal has always been to help people make smart informed decisions, and to take the snoot out of beautiful living.

Case in point: I just took a quick, much needed Memorial Day weekend trip with my fiancée Scott, our Yorkie Floyd and a few close friends. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to catch up on some work, draft by the pool, and pour over all of my new design mags for inspiration. This is a luxury beyond words for me. As a matter of fact, if I had to describe a perfect day, this would be it! The problem with this theoretical perfect day was that I found it to be depressing. Page after page of uninspiring expensive rooms that don’t work for real people, beautiful shots of food that none of us actually have time to prepare and stories about building the perfect wardrobe for “the average career woman” that involves $1200 vintage couture shoes as “staples”. $1200!!!!!!!  I own lots- people I mean LOTS of shoes, and I don’t think any 7 or 8 pairs combined equal that! My point is that I look to these pages as inspiration, not to feel like a loser!

Although I’m known for being thrifty, I’ve never been cheap. I like beautiful things, but I have no problem pairing a vintage lamp from Goodwill with a new custom shade.  I live a very real, very hectic life and you know what? I think it’s pretty beautiful.  I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to do what I love and do it in a way that reaches out to so many people. Think of me as your go to girl for all things timeless as well as trendy and I’ll work hard to keep finding it for you.

I’m looking forward to using this website as an opportunity to share all of the things I’m madly in love with- be it products or websites- and things that are inspiring me at the moment.  I encourage you to share what you’re loving and bounce ideas off of each other via the message board and to give me feedback as well- I’m a big girl, I can take it! If you think there are things you’d like to see covered on the show or in my segments, drop me a line.  Running into HGTV fans and hearing that they used something they learned on our show is glorious and the emails let me know that all of the work we put into it is worthwhile.

I’ve got a few irons on the fire and will keep you posted on all of the news.

Thanks for watching and stay tuned…

Love,
Kristan
