World's Longest Yard Sale
Hi All!
Just got back from Alabama/Tennessee where I was covering the World's Longest Yard Sale for the
Rachael Ray Show. A yard sale SO big, it ran through several
states. I pull over even when I see a BAD yard sale,
so as you can imagine, I was in heaven!
I'm glad to have seen it, shopped it, lived it first
hand, but the unbearable heat has me less than
excited about putting it on my list for next summer. I did
however, find some great things for the set, a
beautiful pair of old mother of pearl binoculars for
myself, and tons of furniture pieces that I would of
snatched up in a heartbeat if it weren't for the
whole shipping situation. There were people in RV's,
campers, and even with hitched horse trailers to
carry home their loot.... maybe, like giving birth (I
hear),
I'll have forgotten by next year how miserable the
heat was and make it a cross country trip in some
kind of enormous vehicle. Or, I can just suck it up and
pay for shipping! What can I say- once dimey, always
dimey......
I'll keep ya'll posted on the air date so you can
see the whole extravaganza first hand! More soon...
Love,
Kristan
Whats next......
Hi Everyone!
Wow! It's been a long time since I've blogged...
It's
been an exciting and busy year, so it's time that I
fill ya'll in!
As many of you may know (since the emails came
pouring in!) Spencer, along with new team headed up by Kahi
in moi's role and Abraham as design coordinator,
debuted
their first episode as a team on Saturday night (and
began with a beautiful bang, I might add!) So I'm
responding to the question that so many of you wrote
in with- have I left Design on a Dime? The answer is
yes. After 4 years, I wrapped my last show back in
November with Dave and Spencer so that I could
pursue
new projects.
For those of you who haven't caught it, I'm
delighted to say that I am now appearing on the Rachael Ray
Show as her "design buddy", and having a blast! I love
doing makeovers, so you'll still see lots of those,
but you can expect my segments to run the gamut. In
the first season, I was lucky enough to get an all
access pass to the Good Housekeeping Research
Institute where, you guessed it, they research
products and assign the coveted Good Housekeeping
Seal! It was unbelievable!
I also spent 3 weeks in
Enterprise, Alabama, the town that was devastated by
a tornado. The community was determined to have the
high school's prom on it's intended date, though the high
school was destroyed, and 8 classmates were lost.
Rachael cooked, my friends Colby and Gretta helped
the kids with their gowns and tuxes and I dressed out
their space. It was a life changing experience,
being
embraced by a community who were the embodiment of
strength and grace. It's projects like this that I'm
excited to start sharing with you.
We're gearing up for season 2, and I'm looking
forward to bringing you more makeovers and just
plain
good design advice and tips. You'll still find me on
HGTV though, in plenty of unaired Design on a Dime
episodes as well as new projects.
Here's where I get mushy. If the sheer volume of
wonderful emails I receive from so many of you is
any
indication of the success of the show, then I'd say
we've had a fantastic run. I feel very fortunate to
do
what I love for a living, and share it with all of
you
to boot! This show has been an enormous part of my
life- I'm proud to have been part of it and
overwhelmed by our fan's support. Thank you
everyone,
for helping make our show a success. Stay tuned!
Love,
Kristan
